Architectural plans for the Seed Academy℠ have cleared a final funding hurdle, and advertisement for bids is expected to be released next week, with bid selection near the end of August. The Seed Academy℠, a partnership bewteen the RCIDA and Russell County Schools, will include classroom, laboratory, greenhouse, livestock, and administrative space. The facility will be a regional center focused on AgriTech education and workforce development. Coursework will offer instruction on livestock management, animal and plant science, agricultural inspection, hydroponics, greenhouse management, and associated business coursework. The Seed Academy℠ will be located in the Lake Cumberland Regional Industrial Complex Site 1 on 11 acres donated by the RCIDA.
Funding sources include a $376,000 Rural Development Grant; a $1,478,973 USDA-RCAP Grant; and a $3,000,000 contribution from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Russell County Industrial Development Authority Board and the Russell County Board of Education have also made financial contributions to the project.
