In 2020, the Russell County Industrial Development Authority (RCIDA) purchased the long-abandoned property in Jamestown formerly known as the Lake Cumberland Dragway. The 48.5-acre site was added to the adjacent Lake Cumberland Regional Industrial Complex Site One.
At its February meeting, the RCIDA board agreed to sell the property to Danny McGlothin of Somerset, Kentucky, who plans to revitalize the site into a new drag racing attraction.
Recently, the board has allowed race events on the property, which have proven to be very successful. Danielle Wilson, Executive Director of the Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission, estimates these events have generated over $150,000 for the local economy.
“We’re more than happy to see this piece of property put to use that will benefit the county and regional economy,” said RCIDA Board Chairman Clint Voils. “The board was glad to acquire the property when we did, when it was just an abandoned eyesore, but it has not proven to be perfectly suited for industrial development. We feel confident the new owner and the racing management team will be good for our community.”
With this sale, the Lake Cumberland Regional Industrial Complex Site One still offers over 100 acres of prime industrial development property, including a 150,000-square-foot Certified Build-Ready Pad. The site is also Food & Beverage Shovel-Ready certified. The board continues to explore additional properties for expansion.
