The Russell County Extension Office, part of the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University off-campus information network, has purchased a lot in the Lake Cumberland Regional Industrial Complex, Site 1, with plans to build a new facility and relocate its operations. The office provides agricultural services including soil testing and technical assistance for farmers, local access to the universities’ research and practical solutions repository, 4-H youth development, consumer education programs, and more.
The Extension Office will be located near the SEED Academy, Russell County’s first-of-its-kind regional AgriTech education center, currently under construction.
“We’re pleased to welcome the UK Extension Office to our Industrial Park,” said Clint Voils, Russell County Industrial Development Authority Chairman. “Agriculture has always been an important industry for our county, and the Extension Office plays an important role in helping our farmers and families keep up with the latest developments. Being close to the SEED Academy is also a big plus.”
While Russell County is an ideal location for a wide variety of industries, the RCIDA has long recognized that the region’s agricultural history and central location makes it particularly attractive to the food and beverage industry. The RCIDA’s Site 1 park is certified Food & Beverage Shovel-Ready, a high-level designation based on industry-specific requirements, including an ample fresh water supply, wastewater capacity, appropriate infrastructure, and detailed reports designed to streamline the site selection and construction process.
While no opening date has been announced, construction of the Extension Office is anticipated to begin in 2026.
